This course is delivered over 6 contact hours (One day) and is ideal for individuals who are working with clients who suffer with epilepsy and have seizures that require intervention in the form of Buccal Midazolam. The learning outcomes covered will helps the individual to understand epilepsy and be able to recognise seizures and initiate treatment with confidence. The course contains both theory and practical elements including final assessments, this includes a knowledge based exam and practical simulation to confirm individual competence to practice.
Understand epilepsy and epilepsy management
Understand the physiological and cultural effects of epilepsy
Understand the importance of care plans and risk assessments to ensure a safe treatment and effective treatment
Be able to recognise seizures and deliver the correct first aid where necessary
Recognise an emergency and take the appropriate action
Understand the theory and practice of administering Buccal Midazolam
Have the knowledge to administer Buccal Midazolam in accordance with the individual care plan
